Part 40 1947

May 1 Dutch 1st and 2nd Para-company’s after a short battle secure the airfield near the city of Palu allowing the DST special force unit and two KNIL battalions to land whit out much trouble.

May 2 After organizing themselves and whit the two KNIL infantry battalions having set up a perimeter the 1st and 2nd Para-company’s and DST special force unit begin the assault on Palu itself where the Republik Indonesia Timur has a small garrison. May 3 Operation glacier continuous as the eleventh United States army and the Chinese nationalist army continuo pushing the Japanese towards the centre of the Hainan island.

May 4 Whit the help of KNIL-ML air support and having the element of surprise the city of Palu is captured by the DST and 1st and 2nd Para-company’s , later in the day Dutch minesweepers HMNLS Djampea and HMNLS Djombang protected by Flores class sloop HNLMS Soemba and patrol craft HMNLS king willem II begin the mission of sweeping mines in the port of p**a so that allied naval ships can unload heavy equipment.

May 6 Republik Indonesia Timur garrison commander in the near by town of Parigi decides to launch a desperate attack against the Dutch in the hopes to remove them from the city of p**a and he orders 200 soldiers despite being outnumber to do that.

May 7 After moving out of the town of Parigi the small group of 200 soldier is spotted by a KNIL-ML L-2 Grasshopper observation aircraft several kilometers from p**a which result in a massive attack by KNIL-ML fighters and bombers operating from the airfield near Palu ( now called p**a I ) forcing the Republik Indonesia Timur to retreat towards Parigi now being chase by KNIL infantry.

May 8 Soviet cruiser and flagship of the Soviet Mediterranean eskadra Krasny Kavkaz during its first patrol in the Aegean sea is spotted by a Regia Aeronautica P.108A Artiglieri who begins circling the cruiser wile in the mean time contacting Italian Dodecanese naval command headquarters on Rhodes , two hours latter Corsica navy light cruiser MC Le Napoléon and Italian royal navy cruiser RN Pompeo Magno who where patrolling the area intercept the Soviet cruiser but after a contacting the Soviet cruiser the MC Le Napoléon and RN Pompeo Magno head back to their patrol.

May 10 The Chinese liberation army air force who has dozen of squadrons made op of mostly Soviet volunteers and some Chinese pilots begins their first combat missions over Manchuria in order to weaken the Japanese and Manchukuo Imperial armed forces present in Manchuria who still number 1,120,000 men ( the Japanese imperial army air force is almost none exciting in the state of Manchuria as most flying units are station in the Japanese home island where the are used in the desperate battle against the overwhelming US bombing campaign ).

May 11 Escorted by a royal Hellenic navy frigate operating from Souda Bay naval base in Crete a major milestone for the Soviet Union happens as Soviet Cruiser Krasny Kavkaz becomes the first Soviet naval ship to enter the Mediterranean sea sins 1941.

May 12 Whit the successful capture of p**a by KNIL and Dutch royal army forces eight fays ago only a small portion of central and north Celebes remain under control of the Republik Indonesia Timur and here Japanese ally.

May 14 In the early morning Soviet cruiser Krasny Kavkaz enters Salamis naval base in Greece , the cruiser Krasny Kavkaz will spend three days in the harbor taking in new supplies and giving tours to high ranking officers of the royal Hellenic navy and politicians of the Greek government before she will return to the Soviet Mediterranean eskadra naval base in the Turkish city of Izmir.

May 15 In Moscow the new politburo decides that the Soviet Union will no longer honor the Soviet–Japanese neutrality pact of 1945 which the feel is outdated even if it was sign two years ago.

May 16 A day after the announcement that the Soviet Union will no recognize the Soviet–Japanese neutrality pact of 1945 the Japanese ambassador to the Soviet Union makes a formal protest to the Soviet minister of foreign affairs , stating that his government despite its current situation always respected the neutrality pacts it had whit the Soviet Union and that the reason why the Soviet Union denounced the pact is absolute nonsense and that it will defend its self whit everything it has if the Soviet Union attacks , later that day the United States ambassador to Soviet Union also pays a visit to the Soviet minister foreign affairs informing him that the US government hopes that the Soviet Union will help the US in ending a war that has gone long enough en ask when the Soviet Union will take action and what kind of action it will be , the Soviet minister foreign affairs informs the United States ambassador that the US will know when the Soviet Union is going to act and what kind of action it will be.

May 17 Portuguese destroyer NRP Dão is attack wile patrolling outside the Portuguese colony of Macau by Japanese submarine IJN I-203 which is one of the handful Japanese submarines who are still operating outside Japanese waters , lucky 1 Portuguese naval aviation aircraft of the G-21 Goose amphibious aircraft type is operating from Macau naval aviation centre is flying near by and drops 2 depth charges on the presumed location of IJN I-202 preventing it from launching a second attack against NRP Dão , NRP Dão despite damages and having 17 sailors of its crew killed limps back to Macau where she safely arrives several hours later.
Royal Hellenic navy and flagship RHS Giorgios Averoff escorts the Soviet cruiser Krasny Kavkaz out of Salamis naval base after spending three days there.

May 19 After 31 days Hainan island still remains a deadly battlefield as the eleventh United States army and the Chinese nationalist army continuo fighting the dwindling Japanese 23rd army who now consist of a force of 30,000 soldiers who continuo fighting in the name of their emperor either using charging the enemy ore fighting to the last men as the are being surrounded by infantry and pounded by USAAF bombers and US navy fighters and bombers , even the republic of China air force 8th and 12th Group operating from airfields in the Chinese nationalist controlled province of Guangdong are taking part in bombing the Japanese whit US supplied B-17s and B-25s bombers.

May 21 Four days after the attack by Japanese submarine IJN I-203 against NRP Dão another attack by IJN I-203 happens as the Japanese submarine fires two type 95 torpedoes at liberty ship SS Montfort Stokes who several minutes later sink killing 33 of her 41 member crew.

May 26 IJN I-203 is sunk whit all hands onboard by US navy destroyer USS Gustafson near Hainan island when she tried to sink ships operating in support of operation glacier.

May 28 In the headquarters of the Chinese liberation army somewhere in communist Chinese control territory a joint military command know as the Soviet-Chinese headquarters works hard on getting the invasion plans for Manchuria ready , these plans include moving 400,000 Soviet Soldiers to the border of Manchuria where the will form the Soviet-Manchuria front which is the planned Soviet force that will move in Manchuria when the invasion begins wile the Soviet far eastern front will act as reserve for the Soviet-Manchuria front and defense of the border , the CLA 3rd army group which is made op of Soviet volunteers will remain part of the Chinese liberation army for entire invasion of Manchuria and together whit the other two group army’s will assault Manchuria from communist Chinese control territory.

May 29 Former destroyer SMS Z6 Theodor Riedel is handed over to the Argentine republic navy where she will be named ARA Spiro and becoming the second German naval vessel to enter in Argentine republic navy service , ARA Spiro first mission is a three days joint navel exercise whit the Kaiserliche Marine in the Baltic sea before heading to Argentina.

May 30 Despite suffering 3,700 dead ore wounded sins the start of operation glacier the eleventh United States army still faces a determent Japanese enemy who have no intention of surrendering despite being completely surrounded and wile the US army sends in new and fresh reinforcements the Japanese 23rd army fighting for their honor and their emperor have no hope of getting any help ore getting anything at all.
